The Alternative Program is the site where students, grades 6th through 8th, are placed by the District’s Hearing Officers when there is an infraction of Yuma School District One Disciplinary code.

When students are placed in the Alternative Education Program they must remain in the program until the end of the term indicated by the District’s Hearing Officer. While in the program students are able to continue basic academic instruction based on the District’s adopted curriculum. They also have access and work with Study Island, a Web-based program, as well as Web-based curriculum. Students also receive behavioral counseling during their stay in the program.

Non-compliance with the District Hearing Officer’s recommendations will result in the students not being able to return to any District One school. At successful completion of their assigned time at the Alternative Program and fulfillment of the District’s Hearing Office recommendations the students will be able to return to their assigned home school. 

Once a school places a student in the Alternative Education Program, the student must remain in the program until the end of the term indicated by the District’s Hearing Officer. So at the successful completion of your student's assigned time in the Alternative Program and fulfillment of the District’s Hearing Office recommendations, your child will be able to return to his or her assigned home school.
