Yuma School District One Preschool Services

Yuma School District One offers several preschool options with different qualifying requirements. All preschool programs focus on the whole child in terms of development with program curriculum focusing on the five developmental areas including cognition, social emotional, communication, physical, and adaptive.

Our Programs

First Things First Preschool

The First Things First programs are scholarship based and are located at Desert Mesa (5 STAR Program) and North End Preschool at Pecan Grove (4 STAR Program). Students must be four years of age prior to September 1 of the current school year and be United States citizens. Families must meet income requirements. Our of district residents will be considered for this program. The preschool meets Tuesday through Friday for three hours per session. Morning and afternoon options are available. The First Things First programs provide breakfast and lunch. This program does not provide transportation. Please call the preschool office at North End Preschool for more information.

Preschool Development Grant Program 

The Preschool Development Grant (PDG) programs are scholarship based and are located at Rolle (not yet rated) and North End Preschool at Pecan Grove (4 STAR  Program). Students must be four years of age prior to September 1 of the current school year and be United States citizens. Families must meet income requirements. Out of district residents will be considered for this program. The preschool meets Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The Preschool Development Grant programs provide breakfast and lunch. This program does not provide transportation. Exceptional Student Services

Exceptional Student Service preschool staff adheres to the Child Find Policy and will screen, evaluate, and determine eligibility based on IDEA and Arizona Department of Education regulations. We also coordinate with AzEIP and DDD to ensure easy transitions for children transitioning to preschool services. ESS preschool programs are located at Desert Mesa, Rolle, and North End Preschool/Pecan Grove. Peer Model Program

We offer the Peer Model Program on a limited basis as part of our Exceptional Student Services programs. We provide a screening appointment for children for this program. If there is evidence the child shows high abilities in the areas of social, emotional, and cognition, they will be considered for the program. The cost of this program is $40 per week. We will provide transportation for this program. The programs where peer model students are accepted are located at NEPS and Desert Mesa. Migrant Preschool Programs 

Migrant Preschool programs are located on the campuses of Pecan Grove Elementary and Otondo Elementary. We place students in a program when they reach three, four, or five years of age. There is no September 1 deadline. We place students based on space availability. The programs operate Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Migrant Preschool programs provide breakfast and lunch. This program does not provide transportation. Families must meet migrant eligibility requirements. For more information about these programs, please contact the migrant Office.

Head Start Programs

Yuma School District One maintains a partnership with Head Start. Classrooms for two and three year old children will be located on the Pecan Grove Elementary School campus for the 2016-­2017 school year.
