Safety First

Our Transportation Department is dedicated to safely transporting children to and from school. Our students’ safety requires shared cooperation and responsible actions by the bus driver, students, and their parents. Our transportation staff is committed to providing safe buses and bus stops as well as well-trained drivers. We require our drivers to meet state and federal training regulations. Safety is always our number one consideration as we establish bus routes and provide student transportation.

Transportation Frequently Asked Questions

Will the parent/guardian of a student with special needs receive a phone call when their student’s bus is outside waiting to drop the student off?

We will not notify the parent/guardian when the bus arrives. Please be present five to ten minutes before the scheduled arrival time.

My child missed the bus. Can the bus come back?

The transportation team can send the bus back after the route in progress has been completed, or we will send the next available bus. This process could take an extended amount of time based on driver availability.

We were waiting in the car and watched the school bus drive by. Why didn’t the driver stop to pick up my child?

We ask that students are present at the bus stop five to ten minutes prior to the bus arriving. The bus driver will not stop if there are no students present at the bus stop.

Can my child ride the school bus home with a friend?

Yes, with proper notification. For safety and accountability, we ask that a written note from the parent/guardian is given to the morning bus driver or the school office in order to have time to notify the afternoon driver.

The school bus is running late, why was I not informed?

The Transportation Department utilizes ParentSquare to send notifications to parents about late bus routes. Please contact your school office to ensure all contact information is correct so you will receive future notifications.

Can my kindergarten student get off the bus alone or with their sibling?

No. Kindergartners cannot get off the bus without a parent or guardian present to receive them. In the event another adult is permitted to receive the student from the bus, you must submit a written request for the Transportation Department to approve.

In an emergency situation, can I authorize another adult to pick up my child from the bus?

In emergency situations we do accept verbal permission. We will ask you to provide the adult’s first and last name, and the individual is required to present a valid ID when receiving the student.

Can the bus driver or bus aide escort my child to the front door at their bus stop?

For the safety of our staff, drivers, and aides cannot escort a student to their home. A parent/guardian should be present at the bus stop five to ten minutes before the designated arrival

Can the temperature on the school bus be cooler?

During hot temperatures, we keep our buses as cool as possible. School buses can only cool 20º below the ambient temperature. With the repetitive door opening for on-boarding and off-boarding of students, school buses are not as cool as a regular vehicle

My child is going to start riding the bus. Do I need to fill out paperwork?

If your child does not have an I.E.P., additional paperwork is not required. While not mandatory, it is recommended that you communicate with your child’s teacher so they are aware that your child will ride the bus.

I have a child with special needs. How do I coordinate a bus stop?

First, visit your school’s front office to complete and submit a transportation request. The school will send this request to the Transportation Department. Once received, we will process the request within three to five business days and personally call you with your child’s bus information.
