Yuma School District ONE

One Community Pursuing Excellence

Our District

Our District

A document titled 'Yuma School District ONE' outlines priorities and goals for student achievement, equity, resource management, communication, safety, and staff development.

Yuma School District One is the largest elementary school district in Yuma County with nearly 9,000 kindergarten through eighth grade students and more than 1,300 employees. We operate 13 elementary, three junior high, two middle schools, and an online school.

Yuma, with a population of approximately 96,000 full-time residents, is located on the southwestern tip of Arizona bordering California and the Republic of Mexico. A rich cultural heritage of Hispanic, Anglo, Native American, and African American influences, coupled with a large number of military families and winter visitors from throughout the nation, has enriched the district with a diverse student population representing many cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

“We prepare our students to succeed in a global community.”

Equity in Education

At Yuma Elementary School District One, our strength lies in our diversity. We believe in the potential of every child, and we are committed to working to remove barriers that prevent students from realizing that potential.

District One rejects racism in all its forms. We strive every day to promote equity, to value diversity and to root out conditions and biases, both overt and implicit, that persist within our system and in the larger society.

As one community pursuing excellence, we will always be committed to supporting every child, especially those who are underrepresented and underserved.

Title IX

Title IX ensures: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” – United States Department of Education

Yuma School District One is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination in relation to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, and disability. The district adheres to all conditions established by Title IX by recognizing the right of every student who attends school in the district and every employee who works in the district to do so without the fear of sexual harassment.

The Yuma Educational Consortium Partners (YEC) is a collaborative effort between Yuma School District One, Yuma High School District, Northern Arizona University–Yuma, and Arizona Western College, where these entities have entered into intergovernmental agreements (IGAs) to share services.
